"Monsieur, I expect you to put all the Trianon in a bottle.
I love this place so much that I want to take it everywhere, with me."
Towards cheapest the end of the 18th century, Queen Marie Antoinette (oppressed by strict court etiquette) retired to the Estate of the Petit Trianon. So great was the love for that pleasant place, that the Queen asked her Perfumer Fargeon to visit her at dawn, so that she could fully grasp the essence of that wonderful place.
She wanted Fargeon to enclose that place in a bottle for her.
Fargeon composed the "Parfum du Trianon" inspired by a musical symphony.
A unique melody, which could evolve on the skin of the royal client who would wear it.
He chose 16 notes, among the most beloved of the Sovereign, harmonizing them in an olfactory structure following the precise dictates of the perfumery art, handed down to him by a long family tradition of Perfumers.
At the opening there were cedar and Italian bergamot. Fresh, with a simple and genuine smell. He had learned that the collection of the essence by pressing the peel of citrus fruits gave the essence a finer scent, of far higher quality than that extracted by distillation.
He chose the resinous galbanum, with a spicy and green smell, to copy the rural freshness of the lush grass.
Lavender, with which the Sovereign used to sprinkle to appease migraines, with a soothing and typically Provencal scent.
The root of the iris, as it gave the spirit of wine a hint of violet flower.
The orange blossom, pure and intoxicating smell, of which before flowering used to give flowering branches to the noble Aunts, and harmonized it with jasmine, innocent but portentous, and the solemn white lily.
He completed the bouquet of white flowers with the essence of daffodil and tuberose (flower that he mastered in the Court of Versailles), to leave the place of honor to the rose, of undisputed royalty, which Marie Antoinette loved so much, and which grew luxuriantly in the surroundings of the temple of love, near the Petit Trianon. It was the flower that stood out among all with a composed but decisive, regal accent.
He sealed it all with woody accords of sandalwood and cedar wood, reminiscent of the mighty centuries-old trees that grew in the surroundings.
A touch of vanilla, sweet and sumptuous, impressed by the scent of benzoin resin.
Gray amber of sperm whale and tonkin deer moss that, as per olfactory tradition, strengthened the tightness of the perfume, giving the fragrance a veiled depth of mystery.
It was a rural scent, of a wonderfully evocative presence.
The notes had come together in a unique symphony, in which the individual ingredients had yielded their uniqueness in an impromptu context.
The garden that Marie Antoinette loved so much,
it had returned to bloom.
